New York Mets manager Andy Green announced the team’s September call-ups, with outfielder Nick Morabito and right-handed starter Justin Hagenman set to join the active roster on Tuesday evening in Florida against the Rays. After the Baltimore Orioles claimed Luis Robert Jr. off waivers, Morabito is expected to become the Mets’ right-handed short-side platoon outfielder, similar to the role Robert Jr. has filled since returning from the injured list.

In 114 games for Triple-A Syracuse, the Mets’ second-round selection in 2023 owns a .743 OPS with 42 stolen bases. He made a quick cameo with the big-league club back in May, but went an underwhelming 0-11 with nine strikeouts and a caught stealing.
He should be able to stick with the Mets for the rest of the season, but he’ll need to produce at the plate to head into the 2027 off-season as a name the team considers for its Opening Day roster.
Hagenman is set to start for the Mets on Wednesday, according to Green, in an effort to give Christian Scott an extra day of rest down the home stretch. In one out more than nine minor league innings this year, the veteran righty has allowed just three runs and struck out nine.
The 29-year-old has been out since the start of the season with a rib fracture, but appeared in nine games last season for the team. Considering how light his workload was on his rehab assignment, his outing might not be one that lasts terriblylong. He went four innings in his final rehab start for Syracuse on August 28, his longest outing as he worked his way back. For his career, he owns a 4.56 ERA in his nine games, one of which was a start.
Green has been straightforward about his beliefs on September call-ups, specifically regarding how awarded players need to earn the decision and will be selected intentionally. Along with the two call-ups set for Tuesday, the Mets returned infielder Mark Vientos from the injured list to take Luis Robert Jr.’s roster spot.
