The Mets will give Robert Stock another opportunity to start, but the organization is keeping an eye on alternatives as the regular season winds down. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, manager Andy Green said Stock will make another start for the Mets. The club is monitoring its options in the minors, with Jonah Tong the obvious candidate, but Tong will make at least one more start for Triple-A Syracuse this weekend before rosters expand on Sept. 1.

The Mets fell to the Brewers 8-1 on Thursday night, struggling against Jacob Misiorowski while Sean Manaea surrendered six runs over 5 2/3 innings. Jackson Chourio powered Milwaukee’s offense with two homers and four RBIs, while New York managed just two runs on RBI hits from Jared Young and Christopher Morel. The Mets recalled right-hander Xzavion Curry from Triple-A Syracuse earlier on Thursday and optioned pitcher Chayce McDermott to Syracuse.
Aidan Smith has quickly made an impression since joining the Mets organization in the Freddy Peralta deadline deal. MLB Pipeline highlighted that Smith is considered the Mets’ top hitting prospect despite previous concerns about his hit tool, as he struggled with a .215 average and a 32% strikeout rate at High-A Bowling Green in the Rays system. However, since joining Brooklyn, he has improved significantly, hitting .333/.446/.617 with five home runs and a 174 wRC+ in 16 games.
The Mets’ player development department announced that catcher Yovanny Rodriguez of the FCL Mets and right-hander Abner Meza of DSL Orange were selected to the 2026 Rookie-level All-Star teams.
Former Mets infielder José Iglesias made his Broadway debut in Buena Vista Social Club. Iglesias, who is also known as “Candelita,” took on the role of the Narrator in the production.

However, both players subsequently cleared waivers and will remain with Cincinnati. C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reported that Suárez and Friedl will rejoin the Reds in Chicago on Friday.

Major League Baseball is proposing a significant change to the free-agent calendar. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, MLB wants to create a two- to three-week window in December during which free agents could sign, followed by a freeze until the first Monday in February. The proposal is expected to be rejected by the players’ union.
Kiley McDaniel of ESPN has released updated farm system rankings following his latest Top 100 Prospects update and team-by-team Top 10 lists. The rankings incorporate new player valuations from FanGraphs and conclude McDaniel’s summer update cycle.
The Twins are reportedly calling up outfielder Walker Jenkins, MLB Pipeline’s No. 15 overall prospect. MLB reported that the highly anticipated Jenkins will join the Twins, as per Jonathan Mayo.
The Royals announced several roster moves, including the recalls of infielder Josh Rojas and pitcher Anthony Gose. Kansas City also placed Michael Massey on the seven-day concussion injured list, returned Beck Way from his rehab assignment, and optioned Mason Black to Triple-A Omaha.
