Beating Brewers flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski is a daunting task. Doing it when surrendering two runs before he even throws a pitch is damn near impossible.
The Mets found themselves in such an early hole on Thursday night and were not able to beat the odds against the NL Cy Young favorite. They lost to the Brewers 8-1, giving up eight runs to Milwaukee for the second consecutive game.
Mets starter Sean Manaea allowed two runs in the first and another two in the second. He had a rough night at a rainy Citi Field, allowing six runs on eight hits, a walk and three strikeouts over five and two-thirds of an inning. It was the first time in seven starts that Manaea didn’t make it into the sixth inning.
Manaea downplayed the slippery mound as a reason for his struggles: “We’re both dealing with it. Just sounds like an excuse.”
Misiorowski didn’t appear totally comfortable with the conditions but still carved up the Mets’ lineup, allowing two runs and striking out six over six innings. Jackson Chourio was the Brewers’ offensive star, going 4-for-5 with two homers, four RBIs and a steal.
New York showed signs of life in the fifth, cutting the Brewers’ lead to 5-2 after an RBI double by Jared Young and an RBI single by Christopher Morel. But that was all the offense they could muster, and the end result was another ugly loss to the best team in baseball.

Few Mets stood out tonight, but Jared Young continued to produce. He drove in the Mets’ first run and is now slashing .268/.330/.440 on the season.
