Nobody has ever been sadder to leave Cleveland than the Mets’ hitters.
New York beat up Guardians pitching for the third straight game, winning 13-6 on Thursday afternoon to secure their first series sweep since May. The Mets hit three homers on Thursday and scored at least six runs in each of the three games.
Marcus Semien, Luis Torrens, and Francisco Lindor all left the yard. The Mets tallied eighteen hits, including at least one by every starter except Cristian Pache. Semien, Luis Robert Jr. and Carson Benge each tallied three hits, while Lindor, Torrens and Bo Bichette had two apiece.
The offensive explosion was needed because starter Nolan McLean was not his usual stud self. McLean gave up five runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings. He did have eight strikeouts and retired eight batters in a row at one point.

After going up 6-2, McLean allowed Cleveland to cut the deficit to one in the fifth on a Nathaniel Lowe home run. But Lindor put any hopes of a Guardians comeback on life support in the seventh with a three-run shot, putting the Mets up 9-5. New York added four more insurance runs in the eighth.
New faces in the Mets bullpen continue to impress. Nate Lavender, entering in relief for McLean, tossed a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts. Xzavion Curry pitched the final two innings, allowing the bullpen’s first earned run since its trade deadline makeover but shutting the door. A familiar face, Kodai Senga, pitched a hitless seventh with two strikeouts as he transitions to his high-leverage reliever role.
New York is now 10-9 since the All-Star break and 3-0 since the Trade Deadline.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Semien fell just a triple shy of the cycle and added a walk and sacrifice fly. He had two RBIs on the day, capping the series finale with a 3-for-4 line, with two runs scored.
ON DECK
The Mets (50-66) head to Pittsburgh to start a weekend series against the Pirates (57-59). Zac Thornton (2-2, 2.88 ERA), coming off his worst outing since his MLB debut in May, gets the nod for New York. The Pirates have not yet named a starter. First pitch is 6:40 PM ET, and WPIX has the broadcast.
