The Syracuse lineup, besides Shawn Ross, struggled against the Clippers’ pitching staff. Ross notched two of the Mets’ five hits on the afternoon. Zach Short hit his first home run with Syracuse, but not much offense would follow. Nick Morabito’s struggles have continued into August; he slashed .230/.367/.311 in July and is 3-for-29 over his last seven games.

It was a one-sided home run barrage in Syracuse, and Jonah Tong was on the wrong end of it. Tong made it through five innings of work but gave up five homers, including back-to-back-to-back in the fourth. The Mets’ top pitching prospect seemed to be hitting a stride to close out July, allowing just three runs over his final three starts, before getting roughed up Wednesday. Jonathan Pintaro delivered an impressive scoreless relief outing, striking out three.

No Mitch Voit in the lineup, but Binghamton still put together a solid offensive showing. Newly acquired top prospect Jefferson Rojas made his system debut and went 0-for-4. Émilien Pitre continues to hit since arriving from the Rays; he is 4-for-8 in two games with Binghamton. Corey Collins is slashing .310/.420/.524 in 13 games since arriving in Double-A.

R.J. Gordon got the start for Binghamton and dominated, striking out 10 over six innings. The bullpen was just as masterful; Guzman, Girton and Garcia combined for three shutout innings to close out the victory.

A plethora of fresh faces were in the lineup for Brooklyn on Wednesday, including Sammy Stafura, who made his system debut. Stafura, acquired in the Luke Weaver trade on Monday, picked up his first hit in his first at-bat. Aidan Smith has started strong with the Cyclones; in two games, he’s now 3-for-7 and hit his first homer on Wednesday. Cole Mathis drove in a couple of runs with his first hit in the two games since coming off the IL.

The Cyclones struggled to keep the Blue Claws off the board. Emilio Obispo made his second start since his promotion from Low-A and was knocked out in the third inning. Rafi Vazquez pitched three solid innings in relief, and Josh Blum recorded the save with a scoreless ninth.

Elian Peña has really hit his stride down in St. Lucie. Entering Wednesday, Peña was in the midst of a six-game hitting streak and added to it in game one of the doubleheader. This year’s third-round draft pick, Aiden Robbins, has had a strong showing through four games. He is slashing .375/.444/.438 and has a double and three RBIs. Bohan Adderley had another multi-hit game with St. Lucie, his second of the four games he has played.

Vladi Gomez had a phenomenal afternoon, three doubles and four hits. The 20-year-old has been red-hot since his promotion to Low-A last week; in five games, he is batting .533 (8-for-15). Julio Zayas has started August hot (5-for-9) through two games after a lackluster July; he hit his seventh homer of the year for St. Lucie.

Owen Woodward (Rehab) turned in his best outing as a pro with two scoreless innings, striking out three. St. Lucie’s staff kept the Tortugas hitless through four innings, yet free passes and defensive miscues found them tied at three. Camden Lohman struck out four over an inning and a third. Ernesto Mercedes struck out four over his two innings as well and now has struck out 8 over his last two appearances.
