In a lost season for the Mets, their young trio of starting pitchers continues to provide hope of better days to come.
Nolan McLean, the best of that bunch, tossed yet another quality start as the Mets beat the Miami Marlins 4-2. Luis Robert Jr. was the offensive hero, breaking a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with a two-RBI single.

Miami jumped ahead in the fourth on a Kyle Stowers solo homer off McLean. The Mets, stymied by Marlins starter Eury Perez through five, responded in the sixth with an RBI single by Francisco Lindor, who then scored on an error. The Marlins tied the game up in the seventh when Jacob Marsee homered off McLean.
New York’s rally in the eighth came with two outs. After Bo Bichette doubled, Carson Benge hit an opposite field single on a high fastball off lefty Michael Petersen. Benge stole second, and then Robert, Jr. delivered his game winning hit.
Mets manager Andy Green was impressed with Benge’s battle to keep the inning going: “I don’t have any understanding of how Carson Benge can foul off pitches above the bill of his helmet.”
Devin Williams secured a save for the second consecutive day. Brooks Raley got the win in relief, giving up just one hit and no runs in one and two-third innings.
The Mets have won four of their last five game and have allowed just eight runs in their last four games.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
McLean delivered another quality start, allowing just the two solo homers along with six hits and two walks while striking out six. His 2.24 ERA since May 31st is the lowest in all of baseball.

Freddy Peralta (5–9, 4.99 ERA) is scheduled to make his final start before the trade deadline, and thus potentially his last start as a Met. He’ll battle righty Janson Junk (4–6, 4.89 ERA). First pitch is 7:10 PM and the game airs on WPIX.
