Jorge Polanco has been reinstated to the major league roster after missing almost three full months due to a wrist injury and Achilles bursitis. Ronny Mauricio has been optioned to make room for Polanco.

During his rehab assignment, he had a .768 OPS and hit two home runs. Those were his only two hits in his five most recent rehab games, but he made a lot of good contact with a 94.5% zone contact rate (95th percentile). He walked five times and only struck out once.

Jorge Polanco is a career .262/.328/.440/.768 hitter coming off a 2025 season where slashed .265/.326/.495/.821 with 26 home runs. He will manage his bursitis for the remainder of the season and is expected to mostly play as the designated hitter. (Think Starling Marte in 2025.)

He is not the first player to play through bursitis. Bryce Harper played through knee bursitis in 2013 and slashed .266/.358/.431/.789 the remainder of the season. David Ortiz had heel bursitis in 2011 and slashed .341/.439/.575/1.014 the remainder of the season. While there is no guarantee Polanco will not be impacted, there is precedent to say he may be able to play through this with minimal impact.

Other Roster Moves

Matt Seelinger, whom the Mets acquired for cash, has been added to the roster. To make room on the 40-man roster for Polanco and Seelinger, Guillermo Zuñiga and Alex Carrillo have been designated for assignment.

Seelinger throws from a very unusual over-the-top 71-degree arm angle, higher than Trey Yesavage, Jonah Tong, or Tobias Myers. He throws a fastball, a cutter and a knuckle curveball. In Triple-A this year, he excelled at generating whiffs and striking out batters.
