The Mets are sending shortstop Francisco Lindor on a rehab assignment this Friday, June 19, beginning in Binghamton, per Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Lindor was placed on the injured list on April 23 with a calf strain. Since Lindor’s injury, the Mets’ offense has ranked 22nd in major league baseball with a 95 WRC+, tied with the Angels, Rangers, Tigers, Marlins and Astros. Across that span, the Mets are exactly a .500 team with a 25-25 record. From the shortstop position across that time period, they only have an 81 WRC+ with a slash of .234/.277/.375/.652. That ranks 19th in baseball over that span.

Bo Bichette, Ronny Mauricio, Vidal Bruján and Zack Short have split time at shortstop in Lindor’s absence. His return will allow Bichette to move back to third base, where he was profiling as an above-average defender.

The St. Lucie Mets have announced that Mauricio will also begin a rehab assignment with them, and Chelsea Janes of SNY confirmed that outfielder Tyrone Taylor will begin a rehab assignment in Binghamton with Lindor. Mauricio went on the injured list with a fractured thumb on May 3, while Taylor has been sidelined since May 26 with a right hip flexor strain.

Mauricio still has his minor league option for this year, while Taylor does not.
