Good morning, Mets fans! Best win of the year!
RIP to the streak of losing when trailing after eight innings. It died Sunday at 91 games.
Tyrone Taylor hit a game-tying, three-run homer just inside the left-field foul pole with the Mets down to their last out against Yankee closer David Bednar. The Mets walked it off in the 10th when Carson Benge bounced a ball on the infield and Marcus Semien scored. Johnluke Chaparro has more on the 7-6 victory here.
“Tyrone with the huge swing in the ninth, I blacked out for him,” Benge said. Added Freddy Peralta: “When we were watching (Taylor’s homer) inside, we were just screaming.”
The last time before Sunday that the Mets won a game when trailing after eight was on Sept. 30, 2024, when Francisco Lindor hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in Atlanta in Game 161 that helped the Mets clinch a playoff spot.
New York (20-26) completed a 5-1 homestand and now hits the road for a seven-game trip that starts Monday in Washington before moving on to Miami. Christian Scott (0-0, 3.45 ERA) faces RHP Jake Irvin (1-4, 5.91 ERA) at 6:45 p.m. ET. The game will air on SNY.
