Francisco Lindor has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain, and Ronny Mauricio has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. This comes just days after Mauricio hit three home runs in one game for Syracuse.

This is a big loss for the Mets, who just saw Juan Soto return from the injured list after missing time with a calf strain. However, Carlos Mendoza said Lindor’s injury is more severe than Soto’s was, and while the shortstop doesn’t have a timetable for a return, he could be out for multiple months.

Lindor had just started to heat up, hitting .262 across his last fifteen games. His power showed up recently, with him slashing .360/.385/.640 with two home runs across his last seven games.

Mauricio, meanwhile, has torn up Triple-A pitching, slashing .293/.349/.638 with six home runs and five stolen bases. He has only struck out in 19.1% of plate appearances, though he does have a whiff rate of 29.8% (39th percentile). Mauricio has continued to hit the ball very hard with his 107.8 miles per hour 90th-percentile exit velocity in the 93rd percentile and his 17.4% barrel rate in the 94th percentile. He has also posted his best selectivity metrics by a massive margin in the small Triple-A sample size targeting hittable pitches. He has struggled against velocity, though that has not been a problem in the past for him.

Defensively, the Mets plan to keep Bo Bichette at third base, which should place Mauricio at shortstop. In 2025, per Statcast, Mauricio did not show strong lateral movement numbers to his right after having surgery on that knee, but hopefully, another year removed, some of that movement has returned. Bichette, meanwhile, has adjusted well to third base and so far has placed in the 66th percentile in outs above average.

Additionally, the Mets have sent Austin Warren down to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for Christian Scott, who will start for the Mets in their series finale against the Twins.
