Right-hander Christian Scott will start the Mets’ series finale against the Twins on Thursday, Carlos Mendoza announced. Kodai Senga, who was in line to start that day, will remain in the starting rotation but will be pushed to Saturday. Mendoza also said David Peterson will remain in the bullpen through this turn in the rotation.

“The way Scott has been throwing the ball over the last couple of outings in the minor leagues, we knew it was just going to be a matter of time that he was going to be helping us with the big league club,” Mendoza said.

Scott debuted with the Mets in 2024, making nine starts and pitching a 4.56 ERA with 39 strikeouts against 12 walks in 47 1/3 innings. Scott struggled with long ball, giving up eight homers. He was placed on the injured list in July and had to undergo Tommy John surgery in September. The 26-year-old returned to the mound this spring and got roughed up in his first start for Triple-A Syracuse, getting tagged for seven runs (six earned) and nine hits, including two home runs in 3 1/3 innings. However, he has pitched well over his subsequent two outings, allowing just two runs and four hits with 12 strikeouts against two walks in 10 1/3 innings.

As for Senga, he is coming off two straight rocky outings, giving up 14 runs (13 earned) on 14 hits, including four home runs, while walking five in 5 2/3 innings. Senga’s average fastball velocity has dropped in each of his starts, beginning the year at 97.3 mph in his first outing of the year and dropping below 96 mph in each of his last two starts. This continues a troublesome trend for the 33-year-old, who registered an unsightly 6.56 ERA in the second half of 2025 and even got sent down to Triple-A.
