The New York Mets selected Florida State University right-handed pitcher Peyton Prescott with their fifth-round selection on Monday. Prescott was the 163rd overall pick in the 2025 draft, which holds a slot value of $415,100.

Coming in at 6-foot-0, 200 pounds, Prescott is from Sebastian, Florida, and turned 21 years old this past May. He got his collegiate start at Jacksonville University in 2024 where he worked primarily in relief while also making six starts before transferring to Florida State before the 2025 season.

According to Mike Mayer, Prescott was hitting triple digits in Tallahassee before undergoing Tommy John surgery this summer. In addition to a high-octane fastball, Prescott throws a high-80s slider, and a splitter. He throws from a lower release short arm action.

At Jacksonville in 2024 he pitched to a 6.02 ERA over 55 1/3 innings and was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team. This past year in Tallahassee, he threw 36 2/3 innings with an improved 5.15 ERA. Prescott also improved his strikeout rate from 7.5 to 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

While drafted as a pitcher, Prescott marks a continued trend for the Mets drafting two-way players as he saw time in the infield at Jacksonville University. He hit to a tune of .190/.333/.238 in 27 plate appearances with a double as his lone extra-base hit.

Prescott came in at No. 296 on Baseball America’s top 2025 MLB draft prospects list. They noted that while some scouts project him to continue to work in relief, they would not rule out him being a starter in the bigs given his ability to throw enough strikes and his athletic operation on the mound.
