After the Mets dropped Game One of Wednesday’s doubleheader to the Milwaukee Brewers, they were looking to turn things around in the nightcap.
The game featured right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski (3-1, 3.20 ERA) on the mound for Milwaukee against fellow rookie righty Blade Tidwell (1-1, 9.00 ERA) for the Mets. Huascar Brazobán (3-2, 3.74 ERA) opened for Tidwell, throwing one scoreless inning before things over to him.
The Mets got the momentum they needed in a big way during the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Brandon Nimmo came up and hit a grand slam to right field to give the Mets an early 4-0 lead over Milwaukee. That was immediately followed by Francisco Lindor’s 17th home run of the season to make it 5-0.

The Mets never looked back as they went on to defeat the Brewers by a score of 7-3.
Nimmo ended the night with two hits, including his grand slam. Lindor, who was named an All-Star Game starter for the first time in his career, went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored as he and Nimmo combined to drive in all seven of the Mets’ runs. Jeff McNeil collected a pair of hits as well.
Tidwell was cruising against the Brewers in his longest outing of the season before the wheels began to come off in the sixth. Back-to-back home runs from Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio made it a 5-2 game with no outs to start the frame.
After a mound visit, Tidwell recorded a strikeout before giving up a single to Rhys Hoskins.
That was all for him as Dedniel Núñez came on in relief. He gave up a single, followed by a groundout that scored Hoskins to make it 5-3. Núñez was ultimately able to get out of the inning without allowing any further damage and keep Tidwell as the pitcher of record.
The Mets got a run right back in the sixth. With one on, Lindor stayed hot and hit an RBI single to left field that scored Ronny Mauricio and extended the club’s lead to 6-3.
Tidwell recorded the first win of his career while Edwin Díaz completed a four-out save, his 17th of the season.
PLAYERS OF THE GAME
After the nights Nimmo and Lindor had, we couldn’t pick just one Player of the Game. Nimmo went 2-for-5 with four RBIs on his grand slam, while Lindor finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
