Good morning, Mets fans!
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported on Sunday night that both the New York Mets and the New York Yankees are in the market for a right handed bat.
The Mets are looking for an infielder in the wake of Jeff McNeil’s oblique injury, landing him a spot on the IL to start the season.
The left-handed-batting Brett Baty has excelled at the plate in spring training, leading the Grapefruit League with a 1.133 OPS. This success makes him the likely starter at second base against right-handed pitchers until McNeil is healthy.
However, it appears the team would like a right-handed bat who can play the infield, which would give them the option to send Luisangel Acuña down to Triple-A to start the season.
The Yankees, on the other hand, appear to be in the market for a infielder and/or corner outfielder.
Both the Mets and the Yankees are over the top threshold of the luxury tax, so there are serious financial implications if either were to add a bat before the season starts.
