First, I hope you are ok! The storm last night in the area was absolutely crazy. I’m not even sure if today’s game will happen while the region gets itself back together.
Outside of the storm, the last 48-hours have been fairly insane for the Mets. The Mets swept the Marlins in a doubleheader on Tuesday, including an improbable 6-5 comeback win the first game. The Braves lost on Tuesday and Wednesday – so the Mets are only five games out with a month left! We can’t have too much positivity though (the universe won’t allow it) – the Mets GM Zack Scott was arrested recently and pleaded not guilty to multiple charges including DUI. So things are fairly insane around the team.
Mets Lineup
- Jonathan Villar – 3B
- Brandon Nimmo – CF
- Francisco Lindor – SS
- Pete Alonso – 1B
- Michael Conforto – RF
- Javier Baez – 2B
- Jeff McNeil – LF
- Patrick Mazeika – C
- Carlos Carrasco – RHP
Marlins Lineup
- Miguel Rojas – SS
- Jazz Chisholm – 2B
- Jesus Aguilar – 1B
- Jesus Sanchez – RF
- Lewis Brinson – CF
- Isan Diaz – 3B
- Jorge Alfaro – C
- Bryan De La Cruz – LF
- Sandy Alcantara – RHP
Carlos Carrasco looks to put some sanity back in our lives tonight. Cookie has made six starts, totaling 23.1 innings with a 6.94 ERA, 5.04 FIP, 1.286 WHIP and a 58 ERA+. He is coming off by far his best start as a Met, where he held the Giants to two runs on three hits over seven innings (the Mets still lost because the offense was asleep). Earlier this season he faced the Marlins, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks over 4 1/3 innings. The Marlins have the following numbers against him:
- Joe Panik 1-1
- Alex Jackson 1-2, 2B, K
- Bryan De La Cruz 1-2
- Jesus Aguilar 2-7, 2B, BB, K
- Jorge Alfaro 1-3, 2 K
- Brian Anderson 1-4
- Sandy Leon 0-1
- Isan Diaz 0-2
- Jazz Chisholm Jr. 0-2
- Lewis Brinson 0-2, 2 K
- Miguel Rojas 0-1
Yesterday’s postponed game was supposed to feature Zach Thompson and it has been a question all day if the Marlins would go with Thompson today or Sandy Alcántara. The Marlins have decided to go with Sandy on regular rest so the Mets get to face one of the tougher arms in the Marlins system. Over 27 starts and 165.1 innings this year, Sandy has a 3.27 ERA, 3.56 FIP, 1.119 WHIP and a 126 ERA+. August was an interesting month for Sandy as he allowed 14 runs over six starts but ten of those starts came in one game. If you take that game out, he allowed four runs over 36 innings (1.00 ERA). Amazingly, the Mets have not faced Alcántara all season.
- Francisco Lindor 3-6, SB
- J.D. Davis 4-10, 2 2B
- Jeff McNeil 6-17, HR, 2 BB
- Michael Conforto 6-20, 2 HR, BB, 2 K
- Javier Báez 3-8, 2B, 4 K
- Kevin Pillar 2-5
- Pete Alonso 1-11, HR, BB, 3 K
- Brandon Nimmo 1-13, 2B, 3 BB, 5 K
- Dominic Smith 0-9
Game Notes
The Mets claimed veteran lefty Brad Hand off waivers and designated right-hander Geoff Hartlieb for assignment.
Acting GM Zack Scott has been placed on administrative leave and Sandy Alderson will assume GM duties.
Let’s Go Mets!
