The Mets will try to enjoy an off-day today in Philadelphia before starting a three-game set with the Phillies. The Mets come into town after dropping both games at Citi Field in a two-game set with the Red Sox. The Phillies come back home having just taken 2 out 3 from the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Last night, Jacob deGrom was terrific once again, striking out nine over six innings, but not perfect (as it seems he always has to be). DeGrom gave up one run off of a pair of 2nd inning doubles. As is customary during a deGrom start, the Mets offense failed to muster a run in a miserable showing for their ace, scattering just two hits and dropping the game 1-0 and falling under .500 (9-10) for the first time since April 10. On Wednesday morning, the Mets released Erik Kaiser, a Vanderbilt product whom the team signed in August as an undrafted free agent.

The Rays are calling up LHP Shane McClanahan to start on Thursday vs. the Athletics. McClanahan is the Rays’ No. 5 ranked prospect, and debuted in the playoffs last year, working in the ALDS, ALCS, and the World Series.
George Springer made his season debut today for the Blue Jays, going 0-for-4 from the leadoff spot as the team’s DH. Springer had missed the first 22 games of his team’s season with an oblique injury.
Anthony Rizzo and Freddie Freeman had some fun once again, this time during a braves blowout of the Cubs. Rizzo came in to pitch the seventh inning, and struck out a 4-4 Freeman, getting a great crowd reaction.

On April 29, 2010, David Wright surpassed Ed Kranepool as the Mets all-time leader in doubles. Wright, in the second inning of a 7-3 home victory over the Dodgers, hit his record double just a day after collecting his 1,00th career hit.
