The Mets and Cubs apparently broke off trade talks for star third baseman Kris Bryant weeks ago, according to a report from Andy Martino of SNY.
Trade rumors surrounding Bryant have been swirling lately, with the former MVP said to possibly be traded by as soon as this weekend. On Thursday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Mets have had trade talks with the Cubs regarding Bryant.
Martino’s report effectively shuts that down though, a the two sides have apparently not spoken in weeks. Plus, the Mets already traded for another star infielder in Francisco Lindor.
If the Mets were to trade for Bryant, they would have to shed payroll in a deal to stay under the $210 luxury tax threshold.
With the Mets and Cubs reportedly not talking and Bryant sure to be a hot commodity, it’s hard to imagine a deal gets done at this point.
