Trevor Bauer is not like your typical MLB superstar. He is an outside-the-box thinker, who has a great passion for business and particularly the business of baseball.

Bauer just won the NL Cy Young Award this past week and is entering free agency as the top starting pitcher on the market. He also has a YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers, where he post Vlogs and other content to his fans.

The latest video Bauer posted is of great interest to Mets fans, as the 29-year-old weighs in on Steve Cohen’s ownership of the Mets.

In the video, Bauer highlights four key areas in which Cohen has gotten off to a great start with the Mets:

  1. Steve Cohen’s use of social media to interact with the fans, as Bauer explains how this was a brilliant business strategy to learn more about his new customers.
  2. He praises Cohen’s declaration of wanting to win a World Series in the next three-to-five years. Bauer says, “You have to know where you are trying to go.” By setting this “bedrock”, everything the Mets will do over the next few years has to be building toward that ultimate goal of winning a World Series.
  3. Bauer then talks about how the Mets are going to achieve their lofty goals. Mentioning Cohen’s desire to integrate analytics (which Bauer is known for being a proponent of), as well as his empowering Sandy Alderson.
  4. Finally Bauer believes that Cohen is setting himself (and the Mets) apart from his main competitor in the market, the Yankees.

There is obvious motivation for Bauer to continue his public flirting with the Mets, as Steve Cohen can offer him more than any other team in free agency. Still, from watching the video, Bauer’s affinity for Cohen’s business acumen goes far beyond pandering for a payday.
