The Miami Marlins announced on Friday that they’ve made baseball history hiring Kim Ng to be their next general manager. Ng becomes the first female GM in baseball, and also becomes the first Asian American GM as well.
Ng is also believed to be the first woman hired to be the general manager by any of the professional men’s sports teams in the North American Major Leagues.
Her impressive resume kicks off when she was hired an intern for the White Sox back in 1990. She would later become the youngest assistant GM in baseball when they Yankees hired her in 1998. In 2001, she was hired by the Dodgers to become vice president and assistant GM.
Since 2011, Ng has worked as the senior vice president of baseball operations for Major League Baseball.
Ng attended elementary school in Queens and junior high school on Long Island.
