After securing 100’s of votes in round one, our feature, Epic Mets Moments, recently jumped into the second round in two of the four brackets. Voting has already begun in the 1996-2010 and the 2011-present brackets and will continue until Wednesday.
Later in the week, we’ll get your opinions on the 1962-1979 and 1980-1995 Amazins’ as we move towards finding your top Mets’ moments in team history.
Epic Mets Moments is our way of learning from MMO readers what were the most significant occurrences by a Mets team, player or staff member since the team’s inception. Our team chose 64 moments and divided them into four brackets. There will be four rounds of voting on the Metsmerized Twitter account only. The goal of course is to find that one moment, that one event that stands out from all the rest.
We will keep you updated on the results by posting articles like this one.
So far round 2 has been characterized by lop-sided voting with one exception. Daniel Murphy’s 2015 NLCS MVP has a 10 point lead over Jacob deGrom’s masterful Game 5 performance against the L.A. Dodgers that same year. Of the eight results so far, this is the closest contest with the others being one-sided.
The other 2011-present results are:
Pete Alonso’s 53 home runs leads Wilmer Flores’ walk-off 57.6%-42.4%.
Jacob deGrom’s Cy Young Awards over Mets sweeping the Washington Nationals 65%-35%.
Johan Santana’s no-hitter has a 76.2%-23.8% advantage over David Wright’s HR in the 2015 World Series.

The results of the four 1996-2010 were even more one-sided with Mets fans making it clear about their round 2 preferences:
Mike Piazza’s memorable post 9/11 HR has received 98.4 % of the vote over Benny’s walk-off.
Piazza’s trade to the Mets leads Todd Pratt’s walk-off 71.4%-28.6%.
Robin Ventura’s unique grand-slam single overwhelmed Al Leiter’s complete game in 1999 with 89.3%-10.7%.
Finally, Endy Chavez’s catch received 71.2% besting the Mets clinching the NL East in 2006, which got 28.8%.
Results should get much tighter as time moves forward, with some interesting match-ups shaping up for round 3. The Alonso rookie home runs versus deGrom’s two Cy Youngs, both history making events, should be especially interesting.
The Epic Mets Moments team wants to thank you, our passionate readers, for helping us make this project a reality. Without your votes, and your loyalty to MMO as a whole, it would be impossible for us to create endeavors such as this one.
Please continue voting and alert your friends so the 100’s of votes we received can turn into several thousand.
