The Mets announced on Thursday that they’ve signed veteran right-handed reliever Brad Brach to a major league deal. He will be added to the active roster with left-hander reliever Donnie Hart being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Brach, 33, was recently released by the Cubs after posting a 6.13 and 1.77 WHIP for them in 39.2 innings this year. Brach does have a 4.13 FIP on the season, has struck out 10.2 per nine innings, and has allowed only three home runs.

According to Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports, Brach had eight major league offers but chose the Mets. Brach, a New Jersey native, grew up a Mets fan.

The New Jersey native was an All-Star in 2016 with the Orioles when he had a career-high 2.5 bWAR. He has a 3.32 ERA in 495.2 big league innings.

To make room for Brach on the 40-man roster, the Mets moved outfielder Brandon Nimmo the the 60-day injured list. Nimmo has been on the injured list since May 22 with a bulging disk in his neck. He started doing baseball activities two weeks ago, but there’s been no timetable given for his return.
