New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso launched his 25th home run of his impressive rookie season on Thursday night against the Cubs. The only other National League rookie to hit 25 homers before the All-Star break was Cody Bellinger in 2017.

The 25 home runs before the All-Star break by a rookie are also tied for fourth most in Major League history. Jose Abreu hit 29 in 2014, Aaron Judge hit 30 in 2017, and Mark McGwire still holds the record with the 33 he hit back in 1987.

Alonso is now just one homer shy of tying the Mets rookie home run record of 26 set by Darryl Strawberry during the 1983 season. His 43 extra base hits through 74 career games are a Mets record and tied for the eighth most in MLB history. The Mets extra base hit record is 80 held by Carlos Beltran in 2006 and Howard Johnson in 1989.

The 24-year-old is slashing .275/.362/.628 with 16 doubles, two triples, 25 homers, 59 RBI, and has posted a 3.2 bWAR in his first 74 games as a Met.
