As first noted by Mike Mayer of MMO, New York Mets minor-league outfielder Carlos Gomez was removed from Thursday evening’s Triple-A Syracuse Mets game.

With starting right-fielder Michael Conforto set to begin his minimum-seven-day trip to the injured list after suffering a concussion in Thursday afternoon’s 7-6 loss to the Nationals, Gomez could very well be on his way to Miami to meet the Mets.

Gomez, 33, signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on March 7. Through 33 games with Syracuse, the 12-year MLB veteran is hitting .267/.328/.467 with five homers, 19 RBIs, nine doubles and 28 strikeouts over 134 plate appearances.

Over 42 plate appearances in May heading into Thursday’s game, Gomez had a .361/.429/.778 slash line.

Gomez hit his sixth homer of the season in the bottom of the third inning in Thursday night’s game versus Louisville (video clip via MMO’s Jacob Resnick) and was replaced in right field by Rymer Liriano in the top of the sixth.

We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
