Stephanie Apstein of Sports Illustrated highlighted the friendship between Alonso and Dominic Smith despite the competition for playing time.

The Miami Marlins lost to the Cincinnati Reds 5-0 on Thursday to fall to an NL-worst 3-10.

The Mets are at the top of the division, followed by the Philadelphia Phillies (7-4), Atlanta Braves (7-5), Washington Nationals (6-5), and Marlins (3-10).

The Braves announced a 7-year, $35 million contract extension with Ozzie Albies. The deal also comes with club options for 2026 and 2027.

The Phillies will host the 2026 MLB All-Star Game per Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Their hosting of the game will coincide with the country’s semiquincentennial.

The Nationals’ potential deal with Bud Norris did not come to fruition according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. They expected him to come back in 4-5 weeks and are instead searching for someone ready to help them now or at least in the near future.
