After being struck by a Mike Shawaryn pitch during the fifth inning of the New York Mets’ Grapefruit League game versus the Boston Red Sox on Monday afternoon in Port St. Lucie, x-rays on shortstop Amed Rosario’s left hand have come back negative, as per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
Rosario, 23, is all but assured the Opening Day nod at shortstop for the Mets. So far this spring, the Dominican native is slashing .462/.533/.846 (6-for-13, two doubles, one homer, three runs batted in), picking up right where he left off after a solid end to the 2018 season.
Over the final month of the season, Rosario hit .283/.317/.416 with five doubles, two triples, two dingers, a .315 weighted on-base average, and a 102 weighted runs created plus rating over 120 plate appearances.
After the x-ray results came back, Mets skipper Mickey Callaway told the media, “[Rosario] should be just fine”.
Shortly after, Rosario spoke with the press (video via DiComo), expressing relief at the situation, saying, “I’m happy because it wasn’t something bad”.
As are we, Rosey.
