This weekend New York Mets top prospect, shortstop Andres Gimenez, was named to MLB Pipeline’s 2019 All-Defense Team.
As the Pipeline’s Jonathon Mayo notes, Gimenez reached Double-A at just 19 years old, “partially because of his advanced approach at the plate, but also because of his glove work at the premium position.”
Mayo adds that Gimenez “has the hands arms, range and internal clock to play the position long-term, even if he has to slide over to second in deference to Amed Rosario.”
Gimenez hit .277/.344/.358 with a .702 OPS, nine doubles, and ten stolen bases in 37 games with Double-A Binghamton. In total last season, he played in 122 games, and had 29 doubles, six triples, 38 stolen bases, while posting a .281/.347/.409 slash line.
