Clint Scoles of Baseball Prospectus reports that Royals assistant general manager Scott Sharp “may be getting serious consideration” for the expected-to-be-vacant New York Mets GM position.

Sandy Alderson stepped down as the Mets GM earlier this season due to a recurrence of cancer, and the team designated assistant GM John Ricco, and special assistants J.P. Ricciardi and Omar Minaya as co-general managers.

As per reports, the Mets later alluded to an outside-the-organization candidate search and also let the public in on their internal debate of whether to hire an “old-school versus new-school GM”, as per Jon Heyman of FanCred.

Jerry Crasnick of Yahoo echoed Scoles’ sentiments and noted Sharp’s “strong blend of analytics, scouting, and business acumen”.

The Mets have reportedly shown interest in Blue Jays VP of baseball operations and former Red Sox GM Ben Cherington, as well as Cardinals special assistant Gary LaRocque.
