Mickey Callaway told reporters this afternoon that Mets OF Jay Bruce “is getting really anxious” to return from the disabled list.
Callaway said that Bruce is “progressing really well,” but the Mets don’t want to rush him back. Bruce has been on the disabled list since June 17 due to a hip strain, amongst other ailments.
He added that the Mets have put a somewhat “aggressive” plan in place to get Bruce back on the field.
Bruce has been a major disappointment both offensively and defensively after signing a three year, $30 million deal with the Mets this offseason.
In 62 games, he is hitting .212/.292/.321 with just 12 doubles, three home runs, and 17 RBI.
