In a corresponding move to make room for Todd Frazier on the 40-man roster, the Mets have designated Matt Reynolds for assignment.

Many had speculated he would eventually be a roster casualty to make room for a new addition this offseason and today that officially occurred.

The utility infielder made his MLB debut in 2016 and has split time between the majors and Las Vegas since then.

In his MLB career, the 27-year old has a .228/.300/.351 slash line along with four home runs and 18 RBIs to give him a lowly 77 wRC+.

It is very possible, if not likely, that the shortstop will clear waivers and could potentially just be outrighted to triple-A.

Light-hitting, roughly league average defensive players (-4 DRS)  are not likely to be claimed by most teams at or near their 40-man roster limits and over 100 free agents still available.
