The New York Mets have shown interest in right-handed reliever Juan Nicasio according to Tyler Kepner of the New York Times.
Nicasio, 31, posted a 2.61 ERA, 2.98 FIP, 9.0 K/9 and 1.08 WHIP in 72.1 innings spread across three teams with the biggest chunk coming with the Pittsburgh Pirates before they inexplicably lost him on waivers.
The former starter finished the season as the Cardinals closer and has 82 big league starts under his belt. Nicasio saw a velocity spike of almost two MPH on his fastball in 2017 while averaging 95 and topping out at 99 MPH.
Jon Heyman has Nicasio pegged at two-years, $14 million keeping him in the Mets likely price range.
Add Nicasio to the list of Bryan Shaw, Tommy Hunter and Steve Cishek of free agent relievers the Mets have shown interest in during the Winter Meetings.
