The Mets extended a multiyear offer to Bryan Shaw around Thanksgiving. Now they’re playing the waiting game.
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Shaw could choose to wait until closing pitchers Greg Holland and Wade Davis sign to establish the market for setup men.
The 30-year-old Shaw has appeared in at least 70 games for the Cleveland Indians in each of the last five seasons.

Two teams whose identity aren’t yet known have made a multiyear offer to free agent reliever Bryan Shaw according Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com.
Multiple reports have mentioned the New York Mets interest in reuniting the right-handed reliever with new manager Mickey Callaway.
Shaw, 30, finished 2017 with a 4-6 record, having a 3.52 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 28 holds which was 6th in the MLB. His ground-ball percentage, which has always been his strength, increased to 55.9% this season. He also reduced his fly ball percent to 22.1%. Shaw’s 2017 has been the norm for him for the past half-decade.
From 2012-2017, the right-hander led major league baseball with 442 appearances and led all relievers with 418 innings pitched.
Callaway was the pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians for five of the six season Shaw spent with the team.
