The Detroit Tigers are going to interview White Sox bench coach Joe McEwing for their managerial opening this week according to Jason Beck of MLB.com. The Tigers also plan on interviewing Fredi Gonzalez who is currently the third base coach for the Miami Marlins.

The Mets are also been reportedly interested in the McEwing in their search for a new manager along with Bob Geren, Alex Cora and Chip Hale.

McEwing, 44, was the White Sox third base coach from 2012 to 2016 before moving to bench coach this past season under new manager Rick Renteria. Super Joe was played parts of five seasons with the Mets in the early 2000s. Our own Josh Finkelstein wrote a piece analyzing if Joe would be a fit for the Mets.

In other former Met news, Carlos Beltran praises coach Alex Cora and thinks that the Mets “Should look into him, no doubt about it and look how well we have played here. He will be a great manager. He takes a lot of pride in studying the game. He takes a lot of pride into his relationship with the players.”

Cora, 41, is currently the Astros bench coach after spending four years as a TV analyst for ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

“When a team plays well it’s a reflection on chemistry, it’s a reflection on communication, it’s a reflection on the coach staff, a lot of things,’’ Beltran went on to tell the New York Post. “Alex has been a huge part of this team. I hope he gets the opportunity. He will be a good manager.’’

Cora is reportedly one of the Mets top choices to replace Terry Collins, and Sandy Alderson is expected to ask the Astros for permission to interview him soon.
