Amed Rosario is back in the New York Mets lineup tonight batting seventh and playing shortstop against the Washington Nationals.
Rosario last played on September 17 and had been out with what the Mets were calling gastroenteritis.
The young shortstop is hitting .265/.292/.417 with seven stolen bases in 38 big league games so far this season.
Previous Update – September 20
Mets shortstop Amed Rosario was in the Mets clubhouse Wendesday morning and felt “a lot better.” Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that he attributed his stomach illness to an improperly cooked meal he ate over the weekend.
Whether or not he is available to play by the Mets’ next game remains to be seen.
“We’re hoping,” manager Terry Collins said. “He’s got to get some food in him. He hasn’t eaten very much. When we feel that his strength and stamina is back, we’ll get him in there.”
The Mets have an off day tomorrow as they head home to play a series against the Nationals starting Friday.
Original Post – September 19
Mets shortstop Amed Rosario remains out of the lineup tonight and will likely be sidelined tomorrow as well, MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reports.
Rosario, 21, is dealing with what manager Terry Collins is calling “violent sickness,” and it’s “more than the flu.”
The infielder was admitted to a hospital Monday night for the stomach issue and is back at his hotel resting, according to the team.
This is the second time this season that Rosario has been sick to this degree. The team is calling it gastroenteritis.
The rookie has hit .265 with four home runs, three triples and swiped seven bags in 38 games this season.
