The New York Mets have announced they will skip right-hander Rafael Montero‘s next turn in the rotation on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Instead, righty Zack Wheeler will match up against Adam Wainwright on Saturday and lefty Steven Matz vs Lance Lynn on Sunday to close out the first half.
Montero has gone 1-2 with a 6.27 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 21 strikeouts compared to 10 walks in four starts for the Mets this year.
The 26-year-old Montero has looked better in his last four appearances holding opponents to a .239/.297/.254 slash line in 18.2 innings.
