Following the Mets doubleheader sweep of the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, the team optioned infielder T.J. Rivera and right-hander Tyler Pill to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The moves were made to make space on the active roster for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and right-hander Seth Lugo.
Both Rivera and Pill appeared in the second game against Atlanta on Saturday, as Rivera clubbed a two-run home run off the bench in the eighth inning, and Pill closed out the game with a clean ninth.
Rivera, 28, has appeared in 40 games for the Mets in 2017, but most recently lost out on playing time due to the emergence of Wilmer Flores.
At the time of his demotion, Rivera was hitting at a .255/.310/.402 clip with two home runs and 13 RBI.
Pill, 27, made his major league debut just over two weeks ago, and went 0-2 with a 3.75 ERA in four games (two started) and 12 innings.
Pill’s services were obviated with the return of lefty Steven Matz and the aforementioned Lugo.
