After a 7-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night, the New York Mets released a statement apologizing for an obscene gesture made by the team mascot, Mr. Met, to a group of fans.
In the video posted on Twitter by Tony T, you see Mr. Met walking down the tunnel at Citi Field and then he turns to give the middle finger (kind of, he only has three fingers and a thumb) to fans.

Later on Wednesday night the Mets issued this apology on social media, “We apologize for the inappropriate action of this employee. We do not condone this type of behavior. We are dealing with this matter internally.”
A Mets official told The Associated Press more than one person dresses up in the Mr. Met costume during each season, and the person who wore it Wednesday night will not do so again.
Mr. Met is one of the most recognizable sports mascots and in 2012 was named the #1 mascot in all of sports by Forbes Magazine.
