The Mets and Marlins close out their three game series this afternoon in Miami on Mike Piazza Hall of Fame induction day. The two teams have split the first two games of the series and the Mets hope that Steven Matz can keep the Marlins off the board in Sunday’s rubber match.

Steven Matz is 7-6 over 17 games and 101.0 innings with a 3.56 ERA on the season. In his last start against the Cubs he allowed 4 ER over 8 hits and 5.0 innings. Steven blamed this on mistakes made in the game, but its hard to separate his recent performance from the news of his bone spurs. Since June 12th, Matz has made 7 starts logging 40.2 innings with a 5.31 ERA.
His two starts against the Marlins this year have been quite different. His first start of the season was against them and it was his worst in his career as he allowed 7 ER over 1.2 innings. In his last start vs the Marlins, July 5th, he allowed only 2 ER over 7.0 innings. The Marlins have the following numbers against Matz:
