The Mets could look to acquire a replacement first baseman for the injured Lucas Duda, Assistant GM John Ricco told reporters before today’s game.
“We’re not going to be able to replace Lucas Duda internally,” he said.
The Mets brought up Ty Kelly before today’s game. Kelly, 27, is hitting .391/.478/.548 in Triple-A Las Vegas. He’s got a pair of home runs and 12 doubles through 35 games. He’s with his fifth organization in four years.
Duda had been slumping, hitting .231/.297/.431 with seven homers this year, but has been a consistent force in the Mets offense the last few years. He leaves a big hole in the middle of the order that will be hard to fill.
For the time being, it appears the Mets will try out a bunch of options at first, including Kelly, Eric Campbell, Wilmer Flores, and Michael Conforto.
