Vegas 6, Fresno 4

The Las Vegas 51s won their season opener thanks to a two-run walk-off blast by first baseman Marc Krauss in the 9th inning. Matt Reynolds ( 2 for 3, SB) also homered as well as Travis Taijeron  and Roger Bernadina. Reynolds made his first pro start at third base (where he played in college) and Dilson Herrera was the DH as he rest a sore shoulder.

Rafael Montero got the start going five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out five. Josh Smoker made his Triple-A debut with a perfect 8th inning with two strikeouts. MMN’s own Jennifer Nieves was at the game and here is her full recap of the game. Box Score

Binghamton Was Rained Out

St. Lucie 6, Jupiter 5

Amed Rosario led off the bottom of the 9th inning with his third hit of the game, this one was a solo homerun to right field that won the game for St. Lucie on Opening Night. His new double play partner Luis Guillorme went 2 for 4 with a walk, two runs scored, RBI and made his pro debut at second base.

Robert Coles picked up the win after loading the bases in the 9th inning with nobody out and working out of the jam for his second scoreless inning of relief. Full recap here and box score.

Charleston 5, Columbia 4 <—- First ever Columbia Fireflies game

Not the way the Fireflies wanted to start the franchise as they allowed fours run in the bottom of the 9th including two on a game-ending throwing error by the pitcher Johnny Magliozzi on a failed failed pick-off attempt with two outs and a full count.

Third baseman David Thompson singled to left field in the second inning for the first ever Fireflies run and Vinny Siena scored on a wild pitch in the 4th for the first run. Shortstop Milton Ramos had two RBI singles and a pair of great defensive plays. Chase Ingram got the start and was very impressive, going four scoreless with seven strikeouts.
