
Johnny Monell, who the Mets designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Bartolo Colon, has cleared waivers.
Monell, 29, was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas but can opt for free agency and refuse the assignment. According to Kristie Ackert of the Daily News, he will make a decision after Christmas.
The lefty-swinging catcher slashed .167/.231/.208 with four RBI in 27 games for the Mets in 2015, and having spent most of the season with Triple-A Las Vegas.
