Portland 5, Binghamton (41-41) 4
Michael Conforto was up in the bottom of the 9th as the winning run with two outs and L.J. Mazzilli on first as the tying run but he was unable to make anything happen as he grounded out to end the game. Conforto was 0-5 with two strikeouts on the night and is 10-40 over his last 10 games. Robert Gsellman has hit streak of five quality starts in a row snapped taking his 5th loss in AA.
Gsellman went 6 innings allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out just two. His AA ERA went up to 4.83, WHIP up to 1.51, and has a 16/28 BB/SO ratio. Beck Wheeler went two scoreless walking and striking out one, he has allowed just one earned run in his last 17.1 innings. Over that span the league is hitting .123/.203/.228 with a 0.52 ERA and has given up only three extra base hits (all doubles). Adam Kolarek pitched a scoreless 9th inning, he has allowed one run in his last 10 outings spanning 12.2 innings.
Gavin Cecchini was 2-5 and L.J. Mazzilli was 1-4 with a walk as they both extended their hitting streak to 7 games. Dustin Lawley was 2-4 with his 17th double while also smacking his a two-run homerun for his 5th of the season. Here is video of the blast. Fort Myers 9, St. Lucie (40-42) 0
Not much positive to write about in this game as the Mets produced only three hits while making two errors and the pitching staff gave up nine runs on fifteen hits, two walks, HBP, and two wild pitches. Amed Rosario also missed his 5th straight game with what is said to be a hand injury.
Miller Diaz got the start going 7 innings giving up five runs (four earned) on ten hits and a walk while striking out only three batters. Diaz fell to 4-6 on the year seeing his ERA rise to 3.81 and he hasn’t won a game since June 5th. David Roseboom had a tough outing giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk in 0.2 of an inning.
Jairo Perez had two of the three St. Lucie hits with his 3rd double and first stolen base with the Mets. Victor Cruzado had the other hit, his 9th double of the year extending his hitting streak to 8 games. Over those 8 games Cruzado is hitting .379/.424/.724 with five extra base hits and six RBI. Greenville 8, Savannah (43-38) 7
The Sand Gnats went into the top of the 7th trailing 7-3 before scoring two runs in that inning and the 8th to tie up the game but the bullpen gave up a run in the bottom of the 8th. Savannah starter Casey Delgado had his worst pro outing lasting only 5 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out one.
Casey’s ERA rose to 3.98 with a strong WHIP of 1.07 and the league hitting .258 against him. Ben Griset pitched two hitless innings issuing one walk while striking out four hitters, he has struck out 19 over his last 14.2 innings. Dawrin Frias and his 8.05 ERA seemed like an odd choice to pitch in the 8th inning in a tie game, unfortunately it didn’t work giving up the winning run on two hits.
Eudor Garcia paced the offense going 2-5 with his 6th homerun (2nd straight game), 11th double, and knocking in three runs to give him 29 RBI on the season. Catcher Tomas Nido was 3-4 with his 11th double and scored two runs, he is hitting .256/.285/.389 on the year. Michael Katz was 2-4 with two runs scored, he is hitting 5-15 with three doubles and two RBI in four games since being promoted from Brooklyn. John Mora was 2-5 with his 38th RBI, over his last 10 games he is hitting .382 with 8 RBI while striking out only three times. Box Score
Brooklyn (12-5) 2, Williamsport 1 F/10 Walk-off
Tucker Tharp hit a ground ball to the pitcher Anthony Sequeira who threw the ball away allowing pinch runner Jeff Diehl to score from second base to end the game. In 10 innings the teams combined for just eight hits while making six errors with four by Williamsport.
Tyler Badamo pitched his 2nd straight start of going 7 innings without giving up an earned run (one unearned last night). Badamo gave up four hits and a walk while striking out six batters lowering his ERA to 1.35. He has allowed only 14 hits in 26.2 innings while striking out 20 on the season.
Corey Taylor, 7th rounder, pitched a perfect 8th inning giving him five scoreless innings to start his pro career. Alex Palsha pitched a scoreless 9th inning walking one and striking out two, he now has 9.1 shutout innings to start the year with 11 strikeouts. Reliever Christian Montgomery picked up his 2nd win of the year allowing a hit and striking out three batters. He has faced 19 batters this year while striking out 12 of them with only four base runners reaching base.
Vincent Siena was 1-4 extending his hitting streak to 9 straight games and has now hit safely in 15 of 16 games to start his professional career. David Thompson and Brandon Brosher combined to go 0-8 with three strikeouts. Box Score
Kingsport (7-7) 5, Greeneville 4 Walk-off
With Jose Figueroa on the third base Raphael Ramirez hit a ground ball to second basemen Aaron Mizell who booted it allowing the winning run to score. Dash Winningham hit his 4th homerun (solo) in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game, he now has 13 RBI in 13 games.
Patrick Mazeika was 1-2 with two walks, run scored, and driving in his 10th run. In the start to his pro career he has hit safely in 12 of 14 games and reached base in 13 of them. Kevin Kaczmarski was 1-4 with his 5th RBI, he is hitting .277/.370/.426 in 13 pro games. Ramirez was 1-5 with a run scored and his 4th stolen base of the year, hitting .310 on the season.
Nabil Crismatt pitched 5.1 in relief allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight batters. Chase Ingram, 6th rounder, pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and has allowed only one hit in his 5.1 innings. Luis Mateo pitched for the first time since July 19th of last year throwing a scoreless inning in relief giving up one hit while striking out one. Catcher Ali Sanchez was 2-4 scoring the Mets only run, he is now 16-32 with four RBI on the year. DSL Mets1 lost 6-2 but catching prospect Juan Uriarte went 1-4 with the 17-year old’s 2nd professional homerun.
DSL Mets 2 beat the Braves 7-2 despite shortstop prospect Kenny Hernandez going 0-4 lowering his average to .122 on the year.
