
Las Vegas (41-31) 4, Salt Lake 3 F/10
Steven Matz was a mixed bag last night striking out eight but also giving up three extra base hits including a solo homerun in only 5 innings. He threw 83 pitches with 58 for strike while giving up three runs (two earned, his own throwing error) on five hits and zero walks. His ERA raised to 2.19 which still leads the PCL, strikeouts to a league leading 94, and also leads the league with 90.1 innings pitched. Matz is ranks 6th in the PCL with his 1.11 and has held hitters to a .213 average this year.
Duane Below returned from the disabled list to throw perfect 6th and 7th innings with three strikeouts. Vic Black made his return from the DL as well throwing a perfect 8th inning while striking out two of the three hitters he faced. Zack Thornton came into get the last two outs of the bottom of the 9th to pick up his 4th win in relief. Chase Bradford pitch a scoreless 10th giving up a hit while striking out one to pick up his 7th save of the year for the 51’s
Matt Reynolds was 0-4 on the night but was able to work out a walk to start the top of the 10th and would come around to score the game-winning run on a throwing error by the Bees third baseman. Alex Castellanos followed Reynolds with an infield single that Kaleb Cowart threw away to allow the go-ahead run score. Wilfredo Tovar was 2-5 with two RBI while playing 2B and leading off, he is now hitting .300 (12-40) over his last 10 games. T.J. Rivera was 2-5 with a RBI and his hitting .375 (12-32) with seven runs scored over his last 10 games. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was 1-3 scoring a run, he has gone 10-24 since landing back on the Las Vegas roster. Binghamton (37-32) 6, Harrisburg 5
After giving up the lead in the top of the 5th Binghamton scored two runs in the bottom of the 6th to take it back thanks to a pinch hit RBI double by Aderlin Rodriguez followed by a game-winning sac fly from Gavin Cecchini. The bullpen combined to throw four scoreless innings to hold onto the slim lead.
Cecchini had a bounce back game going 1-2 with a walk, RBI, and run scored while being robbed by a spectacular diving catch by the right fielder in the 1st inning. Cecchini is still just 5-40 which has seen his average drop from .324 to .287 over the last 10 games. Brock Peterson was 2-4 with three RBI and his 3rd homerun for Binghamton, he has 22 RBI in only 15 games since signing with the Mets. Here is video of the homerun. Brandon Nimmo was 2-4 with both hits coming off a lefty pitcher, he has hit in all five games in his return to Binghamton going 10-22 over that span. L.J. Mazzilli was 2-4 with a run scored and is hitting .317 (13-41) over his last 10 games for the B’Mets. Michael Conforto was 0-3 with a walk and a RBI groundout, it was the 2nd time in three games he has been held hitless. Conforto has now reached base in all 21 games in Binghamtom.
Luis Cessa had allowed just two runs in his last four starts that spanned 27.2 innings but got roughed up last night in his 5 innings of work. He allowed five runs on eleven hits and two walks while striking out six raising his ERA to 2.82 on the year. Akeel Morris pitched a scoreless 7th inning with a strikeout in his 2nd appearance for Binghamton. Paul Sewald worked around a double to get his 12th save in 13 chances. Box Score

St. Lucie (34-33) 9, Jupiter 0
The Mets bats were hot last night banging out 14 hits including going 7-12 with runners in scoring position with every hitter in the lineup reaching base at least once. Dominic Smith led the way going 2-5 his league leading 22nd double and knocking in three runs giving him 42 on the year. His RBI are now 2nd in the Florida State League with his .304 average sitting at 5th in the leaders.
Jeff McNeil raised his league leading average to .331 with a 2-4 night with two RBI, walk, two runs scored, his 9th double, and his 11th steal of the year. Champ Stuart was 2-4 with three RBI and his first triple of the season to raise his average up to .206 on the year. Stefan Sabol, Victor Cruzado, and Jeff Glenn all collected two hits on the night. Amed Rosario was 1-5 extending his hit streak to six games.
John Gant pitched 7 shutdown innings allowing only four hits, two walks while striking out five to pick up his 2nd win for St. Lucie and 4th overall for the year. John Mincone made his St. Lucie debut (pitched 1 inning for B’Mets) pitching a scoreless 8th inning. Josh Smoker came in for the 9th pitching a clean inning with two strikeouts, he has 19 K’s in his last 15.1 innings. Box Score

Mets 2015 14th round pick Vincent Siena was 2-3 with a walk and scored a run, his pro career is off to blazing start going 7-17 with five walks. Outfielder Michael Bernal hit a homerun for the 2nd straight day, he now has 8 RBI already for the Cyclones.
Young lefty Kevin Canelon made his Brooklyn debut getting the start but only lasted 2.1 innings giving up six runs (five earned) and three walks. The Brooklyn bullpen gave up five earned runs in 6.2 innings. Box Score

Raphael Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to score Dionis Rodriguez to end the game for the Mets in their first game of the season. Dash Winningham was 1-3 with a double and two RBI while Milton Ramos 1-4 with a double playing shortstop and hitting 5th in the lineup. Mets 8th round pick Patrick Mazeika made his pro debut going 0-4 batting out of the 4th spot. Nabil Crismatt pitched 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win. Box Score

News and Notes
Savannah Sand Gnats starting pitcher Scarlyn Reyes was named South Atlantic League pitcher of the week for the 2nd time in June. He pitched 8.2 innings with eleven strikeouts allowing only two unearned runs on June 18th.
According to the Brooklyn Cyclones game notes last night they expect 4th rounder David Thompson to be added to the roster within the next few days.
It was also announced that Dillon Gee was making his 51’s season debut on Thursday night.
