After winning the first two games over the Blue Jays at Citi Field, the Mets arrived in Toronto at 3 A.M., due to a delay in their flight out of New York and by customs. For the next two games in Toronto, the Mets looked like a tired team with no energy.

After losing 8-0 to the Blue Jays on Wednesday, the Mets showed little improvement on Thursday and were trounced 7-1, getting outscored 15-1 in the two games at Rogers Centre.

Despite earning a split in the four game home-and-home series against the Jays, the Mets scored just eight runs and allowed 20.

“We’re playing a little sluggishly right now,” Terry Collins said after the game. “We need to find some energy. … We just need to pick up the pace, pick up the energy level a little bit.”

Collins kept harping on the 3:00 AM thing, mentioning it five times in his press conference. “And guess what, now we go to Atlanta and get in at 3:00 AM again.”

“We need to reach down inside here and figure out a way to pick up the pace a little bit more.”

“Obviously,we didn’t score too many runs over these last two days,” Michael Cuddyer said. “I don’t know if we were sluggish or didn’t produce. Whatever word you want to give it.”

It was a failure to execute on all levels for the Mets who coupled atrocious defense with poor pitching and then compounded that with zero offense. Not exactly a formula for success.

But sadly that’s been the case a lot when the Mets are away from Citi Field. The Mets are now 10-21 on the road.

The Mets are averaging 4.3 runs at home and 3.1 runs on the road. The starting pitcher’s ERA is a full run higher on the road while the bullpen home/road split is 2.72 versus 3.45.

Anyway when asked what he intends to do about their play on the road as they get set for a weekend series against the Braves at Turner Field, Collins responded:

“I don’t know Kristie… I don’t know yet. I know we’re probably arriving at 3:00 AM again. I know that.”
