familia mets win

The Mets (13-3) completed the sweep of the Atlanta Braves (8-7) this afternoon at Citi Field by a score of 6-3.

Pitching:

Bartolo Colon got the start for the Amazin’s, and earned the win, improving to 4-0 on the season. Colon pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while walking none and striking out five. He failed to drive in any runs today, but we’ll forgive him. 🙂

Buddy Carlyle and Alex Torres pitched the seventh and eighth innings respectively, and kept the Braves off the board before handing the ball off to Jeurys Familia for the ninth inning.

Familia picked up his eighth consecutive save, striking out Jace Peterson to seal the deal for the Mets, and secured their ELEVENTH straight win!

Offense:

Daniel Murphy had a big day at the plate today, as he went 2-for-3 with a walk, and drove in 4 out of the 6 Mets runs this afternoon. This was a much needed game for Murph, who had been struggling mightily up until this point.

Michael Cuddyer drove in a run in the seventh inning on what was originally a double play. After Terry Collins challenged that Cuddyer was safe at first, they reviewed the play and overturned it, crediting Cuddyer with the RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Eric Campbell gave the Mets the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, as he drew a walk with the bases loaded, pushing Curtis Granderson across to score.

Juan Lagares extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single to left field in the seventh inning.

Lucas Duda was on base four times today, as he went 1-for-1 with three walks.

MMO Game Ball:

Murphy gets the game ball today, as he was responsible for four of the six Mets runs.

Thoughts:

It is such a wonderful time to be a Mets fan right now! They are playing off of each other so well and everyone is contributing. We’ve lost Wright, d’Arnaud, Mejia, Blevins, Black, Wheeler, Edgin, etc, etc, etc, but we still go out there every day and fight and come away with a victory.

They are making it look easy, and are now 10 games over .500. It’s just so amazing, and it hasn’t even sunk in yet. They are also taking advantage of every opportunity that they get.

Familia has been great, Soup is filling in admirably for Wright at third, Kevin Plawecki and Anthony Recker will do a nice job in d’Arnaud’s absence, and Alex Torres has picked up right where Jerry Blevins left off!

With Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Jon Niese pitching against the Yankees, the Mets have a great chance of further extending this win streak. LGM.

On Deck:

Jacob deGrom (2-1, 0.93 ERA) takes on Michael Pineda (2-0, 5.00 ERA) tomorrow night at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
