Here’s a brief summary of what we learned from the Mets Season Ticket Holders event at Citi Field where Sandy Alderson, John Ricco, Paul DePodesta and J.P. Ricciardi fielded questions from the group.
- Matt Harvey will be held back to start the home opener against the Nationals and won’t pitch in the first two series of the season on the road. However, that isn’t written in stone.
- It’s very unlikely that either Brandon Nimmo or Michael Conforto see any time on the big league roster in 2015.
- The Mets will definitely not sign Cuban phenom Yoan Moncada due to affordability and roster issues despite being very impressed by what they saw from him.
- The Mets considered no less than 8-10 different shortstops this offseason, but in the end they felt all had flaws and that none were cost effective. There was no perfect option, some strong on offense and weak on defense, or vice versa for others.
- Alderson said that he never had any intention of trading Noah Syndergaard despite all the rumors that were circulating.
- Alderson said he isn’t going to make a trade just to make a trade, and if you’re going to judge his offseason, do it after you see how his team performs on the field this season.
I’ll probably add to this once I hear back from a couple more of my people.
