Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed this afternoon that righthander Rafael Montero will get a spot start on Wednesday versus the Colorado Rockies in order to give the rest of the rotation an extra day’s rest.
Montero, 23, is currently in his third stint with New York this season after being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
In seven games for the Mets this season, Montero owns an 0-3 record and has pitched to a 5.23 ERA over a span of 32.2 innings.
He had an excellent season for Las Vegas, posting a 3.60 ERA and 1.261 WHIP in 16 minor league starts.
