nick franklin

Mike Puma of the New York Post was told that the Mets haven’t had any substantive talks with Mariners regarding Nick Franklin since the Winter Meetings and that Franklin/Mariners are not on the front burner right now.

On Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported that the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays are still interested in Franklin who is having a great Spring by the way.

Heyman said the likelihood that the Mariners strike a deal “seems strong at this point,” and that trade discussions are ongoing.

The Winter Meetings… That seems like such a long time ago.

I’m sure that even without any real dialogue, that Sandy Alderson is continuing to monitor both Nick Franklin in Seattle as well as Chris Owings and Didi Gregorius in Arizona.

D’Backs GM Kevin Towers continues to say he’s open to trading Owings or Gregorius, but adds he won’t give either away and could just as well hang onto both of them. Several reports say he is looking for a top quality catcher in any deal.

I’d find it difficult to believe that the Mets front office doesn’t have their ear to ground on all fronts regarding shortstop. I’d say every option is on the table with some options being more serious a consideration than others.
