With Major League Baseball deciding to give the National League teams a day off on Sunday, only two playoff games litter the schedule on Sunday. Each are in the American League and each are Game 2s. Already, one division winner is on the back foot, meanwhile, the defending champions are one step closer to returning to the ALCS.

Note, both games can be seen on Fox Sports 1.

Game 2: (5) Texas Rangers vs. (1) Baltimore Orioles, 4:07 pm ET

Pitching Matchup: Jordan Montgomery (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Grayson Rodriguez (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

In Game 1, after a lengthy rain delay at Camden Yards in Baltimore, the American League East division-winning Baltimore Orioles fell in Game 1 to the now red-hot Texas Rangers, 3-2. The Rangers, who swept the Tampa Bay Rays in the Wild Card round, relied on some solid defense and a solo home run by rookie Josh Jung in Friday’s opening game of the series.

Jordan Montgomery, a potential target of the New York Mets this offseason via free agency, posted seven scoreless innings in the Rangers’ Game 1 win against Tampa Bay in the Wild Card round. Meanwhile, Orioles’ rookie Grayson Rodriguez is set to make his playoff debut. He pitched to a 4.35 ERA (3.93 FIP) across 122 innings and 23 regular season starts.

Game 2: (3) Minnesota Twins vs. (2) Houston Astros, 8:03 pm ET

Pitching Matchup: Pablo López (1-0, 1.59 ERA) vs. Framber Valdez (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

In Game 1 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, the Astros staved off a late Minnesota Twins’ comeback attempt en route to a 6-4 victory. Future Hall-of-Famer José Altuve led off the game for the Astros with a solo home run. After taking a 5-0 lead, the Twins stormed for four runs in the seventh inning, bringing the game within one. However, after a Yordan Álvarez solo shot in that same seventh, the Astros were able to hold on for the 6-4 win.

In Game 2, the Twins will turn to Pablo López who was solid in his Wild Card start. In Game 1 against the Blue Jays, López tossed 5 2/3 innings allowing only one run. Meanwhile, Framber Valdez will head to the mound for the Astros. During the regular season, he pitched to a 3.45 ERA (3.50 ERA) across 198 innings en route to another All-Star selection.
