The MLB Draft is only nine days away now and mock drafts are now coming out in herds. The Mets are picking 20th in this year’s draft. Last year, they selected Justin Dunn out of Boston College with the 19th pick.

The 2017 MLB Draft will be held on June 12-14 and can be viewed on MLB Network and MLB.com.

Two of the seasoned Minor League Experts released their most recent mock drafts, Jonathan Mayo and Keith Law.

Keith Law of ESPN has the Mets selecting SS Logan Warmoth. Warmoth is from the University of North Carolina, the same school that produced Matt Harvey. Law believes he has the ability to stick at short and he likes his bat. He also thinks the pick would be a steal and notes the Mets have primarily been linked to college bats. Warmoth is slashing .336/.410/.562 with 9 HR on the season.

Jonathan Mayo of MLB Pipeline has the Mets taking 6’6″ righty Nate Pearson. Pearson is a hard throwing righty from Central Florida Junior College. Pearson had a bullpen session last week which featured Mets scouts. He threw 102 in the session and in 13 starts (81 innings), he has 118 strikeouts and a 1.56 ERA. Last year was the first year the Mets took a pitcher in the first round since 2010. This year has taught us there is no such thing as too much pitching. Pearson sounds a lot like the pitchers the Mets like having: high velocity and projectable. He did have an screw placed in his elbow in college but has not shown signs of it during college.

Baseball America also released their mock draft. They have the Mets selecting first baseman/left-handed pitcher Nick Pratto out of Huntington Beach HS in California. He is not a huge power bat but is seen as the most advanced high school hitter in the country.

Of all these guys, Pearson intrigues me the most. I like Warmoth a lot too but judging by Law’s comments, it would be a stretch to see him at 20. If he does reach that slot, I’d imagine the Mets draft room will have a lot of thinking to do.

As we draw closer, we will only see more mock drafts. Only time will tell who ends being right.
