Well, it looks like those ’86 Mets have another (simulated) championship to add to their resume.

MLB.com‘s Anthony DiComo reported yesterday that the 1986 squad beat the (116 game-winner) 2001 Seattle Mariners 4-3 in a best-of-seven final series to be crowned ‘Dream Backet 2’ champions (I wonder if they allow fans in this virtual world).

You can find full game-by-game breakdowns in the link above, but we should note (unlike the real ’01 Mariners who choked in the ALCS against the Yankees) that the virtual squad put up a much better fight.

After losing a close first-game 3-2, the Mets would rally to win the next three contests — taking a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Instead of shutting the door in game five, the Mets fell flat and were out scored by Seattle 15-1 combined in games five and six.

Enter game seven — and thanks to Bobby Ojeda’s eight-innings of shutout ball and key offensive contributions from Gary Carter and Mookie Wilson — the Mariners miracle comeback fell just short losing 3-0.

Even in a simulation consisting of the GREATEST 64-teams of all-time, the 1986 Mets proved once again why they are considered by many to be the best team all-time.
